OUR MISSION

The hard fact is that the biomedical research world has become tough and highly competitive. NIH grant funding is at the 10-20% level while pharmaceutical companies are under great pressure to find new drugs. Speed and clarity in bringing a difficult project to fruition is essential. Our mission, honed through the years, has become simple: to give clients meaningful results as fast as possible. Their success is our success and conversely their failure means that they won't be back.

With that in mind, each set of results going out and also gels to be run are discussed at group meeting on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, including deadlines, long term goals (if we know them) and details of sample preparation. We strive to be up-to-date. Input from clients is welcome at any stage.

PEOPLE

President: Nancy Kendrick
(nancy@kendricklabs.com)

Nancy received her Ph.D. in Neurobiology from Washington University in St. Louis under Dr. Garland Marshall, Department of Physiology. Her thesis focused on solid phase and solution peptide synthesis with the goal of creating a model for the neuronal action potential. She did postdoctoral research studying calcium transport in synaptosomes with Dr. Mordicai Blaustein at Washington University, and studying vitamin D dependent calcium transport in intestine with Dr. Hector DeLuca at the University of Wisconsin, Department of Biochemistry.

In 1981 Nancy started Kendrick Labs, a small 2DE business catering to scientists at the University of Wisconsin.  Kendrick Labs subsequently received SBIR Phase I and II awards and incorporated in 1987. At present the business occupies about 2000 sq ft of lab space and 1500 sq ft of office space. The infrastructure of the business is strong and includes 105 written SOPs (standard operating procedures) for various procedures and calibrations. Isoelectric focusing, the first step of 2DE, is performed every Monday and Wednesday night and slab gel electrophoresis is carried out on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Laboratory Manager: Jon Johansen
(jon@kendricklabs.com)

Jon received his B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Department of Biochemistry in 1985 and joined Kendrick Labs thereafter as a Biochemist. In 1992 he was promoted to Lab Manager and has steadily increased in knowledge and experience since that time. Jon is a problem solver par excellence.

Senior Biochemist: Keith Oberle
(keith@kendricklabs.com)

Keith received his B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin-LaCross in 1999 and joined Kendrick Labs immediately. He became Assistant Radiation Safety Officer in 2001 and was promoted to Senior Biochemist in 2005. Keith carries out the IEF loading for 2DE and also is responsible for the majority of 1DE quantitative analyses.

Biochemists: Matt Hoelter (matt@kendricklabs.com) and
Laura Nelson  (laura@kendricklabs.com)

Matt received his B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2004; before that he gained experience by working part time at Kendrick Labs during his rowdy student years.  Laura received her B.S. in Microbiology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2005. Both Matt and Laura joined Kendrick Labs immediately upon graduation.
